Okendo Rich Snippets: How to Turn Them Off Without Losing Your Stars
Last Updated on October 14, 2026 by Corey Fox
Okendo rich snippets are the Product schema Okendo adds to your product pages so Google can show your star rating. Your Shopify theme usually outputs its own Product schema as well, so Google gets two descriptions of the same product. Okendo has a setting to switch its version off. The part that trips stores up is the rating: Okendo stores it in different places depending on when and how the app was installed, and you need to know which one before you turn anything off.
How to check if you have duplicate Product schema
- Paste the URL of a product that has Okendo reviews into Google’s Rich Results Test.
- Open Product snippets. Two items means two Product blocks.
- Expand both. Usually one carries the rating (Okendo’s) and the other carries the full price and variant details (your theme’s).
The free Shopify Schema Conflict Checker runs the same check in one step and labels which block came from Okendo and which from your theme.
Step 1: Find out where your Okendo rating lives
Once Okendo’s schema is off, your theme has to supply the rating. That only works if the theme can read it. Okendo stores show up in one of three states:
- Shopify’s standard review fields are filled in. In Shopify admin, open a product with reviews and look at its metafields. If Product rating and Product rating count show values, any theme or schema snippet can read them with no Okendo-specific code.
- Only Okendo’s own summary field is filled in. The rating exists, but under Okendo’s namespace. Your schema has to read that field directly.
- Older installs use a separate pair of Okendo fields, one for the average and one for the count, instead of a single summary field.
Check two or three products before deciding. If every field is blank on a product with reviews, the app hasn’t synced that product yet, and Okendo support is the next stop.
Step 2: Turn off Okendo’s rich snippets
- In the Okendo admin, go to Reviews > Settings > Widget.
- Untick Include SEO Rich Snippets.
- Save, then run the Rich Results Test again. You want exactly one Product item with the rating on it.
On some older Okendo accounts the option isn’t there. In that case, ask Okendo support to turn off SEO rich snippets for your store. While you’re in Shopify, also check Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds: if a review app has a separate SEO or rich snippets embed, turn that off and leave the widget embed on.
If your theme’s schema doesn’t include the rating
Most themes leave the rating out of their Product schema, so the stars vanish the moment Okendo’s block is gone. The Shopify Schema Kit fixes that with one clean Product block that includes the rating, only on products that have reviews. It reads Shopify’s standard fields by default and has a one-line option for each of the Okendo field layouts above. $39, copy-paste snippets and a guide.
