Loox Rich Snippets: How to Turn Them Off on Shopify

Last Updated on October 14, 2026 by Corey Fox

Loox rich snippets are the Product schema Loox adds to your product pages so Google can show star ratings. Your Shopify theme normally outputs its own Product schema too, so the page ends up describing one product twice. Of the common Shopify review apps, Loox is the easiest to clean up: it writes your rating to Shopify’s standard review fields and has a self-serve toggle for its schema. The one snag is older reviews that never made it into those fields.

How to check if you have duplicate Product schema

  1. Run a product page that shows Loox reviews through Google’s Rich Results Test.
  2. Click Product snippets. If it lists two items, you have two Product blocks.
  3. Compare them. A block with a rating but thin product details is typically Loox’s. The one with every variant price is your theme’s.

Or paste the URL into the free Shopify Schema Conflict Checker, which finds both blocks and names the source of each.

Step 1: Confirm Loox has synced your ratings

Loox writes each product’s average rating and review count to Shopify’s standard review fields, the ones your theme’s schema can read. Before turning anything off, spot-check that this actually happened. In Shopify admin, open a few products with reviews, including one of your oldest, and look at the Product rating and Product rating count metafields.

If newer products have values and older ones are blank, those older reviews haven’t been synced. Ask Loox support to backfill the Shopify review metafields for your whole catalog. Skip this and the products with the most reviews, usually your best sellers, are the ones that lose their stars.

Step 2: Switch off the Loox rich snippets toggle

  1. In the Loox admin, find the SEO Rich Snippets setting.
  2. Toggle it off and save.
  3. Check Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds for any separate SEO or rich snippets embed. Turn that off and keep the embed that displays your reviews.
  4. Re-run the Rich Results Test. The goal is one Product item, with the rating on it.

Loox moves its menus around occasionally. If the toggle isn’t where you expect, search the Loox help center for “rich snippets.”

If your theme’s schema doesn’t include the rating

Here’s the part that catches most stores: turning off Loox’s block only helps if your theme’s Product schema picks up the rating, and most themes don’t. The Shopify Schema Kit gives you one Product block that reads the rating Loox already syncs, with no Loox-specific code and no rating on products without reviews. $39, copy-paste snippets and a guide.

If you’d prefer it done for you, the Shopify SEO Fix Sprint covers the schema plus the rest of your theme’s SEO cleanup in two weeks.
