Shopify speed optimization
Shopify speed optimization for the pages that make money
Most slow Shopify stores aren’t slow because of Shopify. They’re slow because of apps, leftover code and heavy media on product and collection pages. I find what’s slowing your real templates, fix it in a duplicate theme, and measure the result on real-user Core Web Vitals, not a lab score.
- Every app’s cost in load time measured on your product and collection pages
- Leftover code from uninstalled apps found and removed
- Changes built in a duplicate theme, nothing goes live until you approve it
The free Shopify store audit includes a Core Web Vitals check on your product pages.
What slows Shopify down
The usual causes on a slow Shopify store
- Too many apps loading on every page. Reviews, upsells, chat, popups, loyalty and tracking scripts all compete before the product can render.
- Code left behind by uninstalled apps. Removing an app doesn’t always remove what it added to your theme.
- Heavy hero images and video. Oversized media above the fold is the most common reason the main product image loads late.
- Layout shifts. Review widgets, banners and badges that load late push the page around while shoppers try to tap.
- Third-party scripts in the theme. Pixels and tags hardcoded into theme files instead of loaded on demand.
How it works
Measured on real shoppers, not a lab score
- Measure. Real-user Core Web Vitals from Search Console and Chrome data on your product and collection templates, the pages that earn revenue.
- Find the cost. Each app and script measured for what it adds to load time, so you can decide what’s worth keeping.
- Fix in a duplicate theme. Leftover code removed, media resized, late-loading widgets reserved space, non-critical scripts deferred.
- Re-measure. Real-user data takes about 28 days to fully update, so you get a before and after once it has.
Speed work here is tied to SEO and revenue, not a PageSpeed score of 100. A faster product page that still has duplicate schema or thin collections leaves money on the table, so the same pass checks those too.

FAQs
Questions about Shopify speed
Will you get my PageSpeed score to 100?
That’s not the goal. Google uses real-user Core Web Vitals, not the lab score, and a store full of working apps rarely scores 100. The goal is passing Core Web Vitals on the pages that earn revenue.
Do I have to remove apps?
Only the ones that cost more than they earn. You get the load-time cost of each app, and you decide. Many fixes keep the app and change how or where it loads.
Will a speed app fix this for me?
Sometimes partly. But a speed app is one more script on the page, and it can’t remove code other apps left in your theme. The lasting fixes happen in the theme itself.
How soon will I see results?
Lab tests improve right away. Real-user Core Web Vitals in Search Console take about 28 days to fully reflect the change.
