What is an AI Overview and SERP feature checker?

An AI Overview and SERP feature checker tells you which special result blocks Google shows for a keyword, before you ever try to rank for it. Enter a query and it reports whether Google returns an AI Overview, a featured snippet, a People Also Ask box, and related searches, for the location, language, and device you choose. When an AI Overview is present, it also shows you the sources Google cited to build that answer.

That last part matters more than anything else on the page. In an AI Overview, the citation is the visibility. If Google is answering the question itself, your goal shifts from “rank number one” to “be one of the sources the answer is built from.”

Why SERP features change your strategy

Ten blue links are no longer the whole game. On a growing share of queries, the top of the page is taken up by an AI Overview, a featured snippet, or a stack of People Also Ask questions, and those blocks absorb attention (and clicks) before a searcher reaches the classic organic results. Ranking first still helps, but on a feature-heavy SERP it is not the same prize it used to be.

Checking features first tells you what kind of page you actually need to build:

  • AI Overview present: optimize for citation. Clear, quotable answers, strong entity clarity, and supporting structured data give you a shot at being one of the cited sources.
  • Featured snippet present: there is a specific box to win. Match its format (paragraph, list, or table) and answer the question directly near the top of your page.
  • People Also Ask present: Google is telling you the follow-up questions. Answer them on the page and you cover the intent more completely.
  • Few or no features: a cleaner organic race where traditional on-page and links do more of the work.

How to use the checker

  1. Enter your keyword: the exact query you want to investigate.
  2. Set location, language, and device: features vary by all three, so match your target audience. AI Overviews in particular differ by country and device.
  3. Click “Check features”: the tool pulls the live SERP and reports the features present.
  4. Review the AI Overview and its sources: if one appears, read the cited sources to see who Google trusts for this topic.
  5. Scan the snippet, PAA, and related searches: use them as a content brief for what to cover.

What the checker shows you

  • AI Overview status and sources: whether an AI Overview appears, and the pages Google cited to generate it.
  • Featured snippet: the page currently holding the snippet, if there is one.
  • People Also Ask: the follow-up questions Google surfaces for the query.
  • Related searches: adjacent queries that hint at how Google understands the topic.
  • Feature tags: a quick summary of every non-organic block present on the page.

Turn the results into action

The checker is a diagnosis, not the treatment. Once you know what Google is showing, here is where I take it:

  • If an AI Overview is present, study the cited sources. What format did they use, what claims got pulled, and how directly did they answer? Then write to be quotable: lead with the answer, keep sentences self-contained, and back claims with clear data.
  • If a featured snippet exists, reverse-engineer its format and target it explicitly with a matching block near the top of your page.
  • Fold the People Also Ask questions into your headings and your FAQ so the page satisfies the full intent, not just the head query.

Generate schema while you’re here

The Schema Markup Generator on this page produces valid JSON-LD structured data for the most common types (Article, FAQ, Organization, Local Business, Product, and Breadcrumbs). Structured data helps Google and AI engines parse and attribute your content, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to become a cited source. Fill in the fields, copy the output, and drop it into your page. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Where the data comes from

Feature detection uses live Google SERP data via the DataForSEO API for the exact location, language, and device you select, so the results are neutral and repeatable rather than tied to your personal search history. Recent identical queries are cached briefly to keep the tool fast, and no login is required.

AI Overview and SERP feature checker FAQ

What is a Google AI Overview?

An AI Overview is an AI-generated answer that Google shows at the top of some search results, summarizing information and linking to the sources it drew from. It sits above the classic organic links, so the sources it cites get prime visibility.

How do I check whether a keyword triggers an AI Overview?

Enter the keyword in the checker, set your location, language, and device, then click “Check features.” The tool reports whether an AI Overview appears for that query and, when it does, lists the sources Google cited.

Does this tool show which sources the AI Overview cites?

Yes. When an AI Overview is present, the checker lists the pages Google referenced to build the answer, so you can see who Google currently trusts on the topic and study how they earned the citation.

Is the AI Overview and SERP feature checker free?

Yes. You can check AI Overviews and SERP features for free, with no account required. Fair-use limits apply so the tool stays fast for everyone.

Why does an AI Overview appear for some searches but not others?

Google shows AI Overviews when it judges that a generated summary is useful for the query, which tends to favor informational and how-to searches over simple navigational ones. Presence also varies by location, language, and device, so the same keyword can show an AI Overview in one market and not another.

Can I check featured snippets and People Also Ask too?

Yes. Alongside AI Overviews, the checker reports the featured snippet (if one is present), the People Also Ask questions, related searches, and a summary of every SERP feature on the page.

Can I check features by country and device?

Yes. Choose your target country and language, and switch between desktop and mobile. This matters because AI Overviews and other features frequently differ across markets and devices.

How is this different from a regular SERP checker?

A standard SERP checker lists the top organic results in order. This tool focuses on the answer blocks around those results, the AI Overview, featured snippet, and People Also Ask, so you can plan for answer-engine visibility rather than just organic position.
