Fashion and apparel SEO

Fashion ecommerce SEO for Shopify apparel brands

Apparel stores break SEO in their own ways. Every size and color multiplies your URLs, collections change every season, products sell out and disappear, and the big retailers own every broad search. I work on Shopify apparel stores and focus on the searches where shoppers already know what they want.

  • Collections built around how shoppers actually search: style, fit, fabric, occasion
  • Variant, filter and sort URLs cleaned up so Google ranks the pages that sell
  • A plan for seasonal and sold-out products that keeps the rankings you’ve earned

Both free. The Revenue Leak audit is 8 minutes of analysis on your store and a 20-minute call.

Why it’s harder

What makes fashion ecommerce SEO different

  • Variants and filters multiply your URLs. Size, color, sort and filter combinations create thousands of near-duplicate pages. Google spends its time on those instead of your real collections.
  • Collections change every season. When a seasonal collection is deleted or renamed, the rankings and links it built go with it. Next year you start over.
  • Products sell out and vanish. Deleting sold-out products throws away pages that were ranking. Leaving them up with nothing to buy wastes the visit. Each needs a decision.
  • The big retailers own the broad terms. You won’t outrank them for “women’s dresses”. You can win “linen midi dress” or “petite wide-leg trousers”, where a specialist brand is the better answer.
  • Thin product descriptions. Many apparel stores reuse supplier copy or write two lines per product. Fit, fabric and sizing details are what shoppers search for and what AI shopping answers pull from.

What I do

Pages built for shoppers who know what they want

  • Collections by style, fit, fabric and occasion. Pages that match specific searches and send shoppers straight to products, with a short intro that answers the question behind the search.
  • Evergreen URLs for seasonal collections. One permanent collection URL you refresh each season, instead of a new page that starts from zero every time.
  • Sold-out and discontinued product rules. Keep, redirect or retire, decided by traffic and links, so you stop losing rankings every time stock runs out.
  • Variant and filter cleanup. Canonicals, internal links and crawl rules so Google indexes your collections and products, not every color and sort combination.
  • Product pages with the details shoppers check. Fit notes, fabric, care and sizing as text, plus one clean Product schema block with your review rating and color and size variants.

FAQs

Questions about fashion ecommerce SEO

Do I need a fashion SEO agency?

Not necessarily. Most apparel SEO problems are structural: variants, filters, seasonal collections and thin product pages. One senior specialist can fix those faster and for less than an agency team. An agency makes more sense if you also need paid media, creative or large content volume.

What should I do with sold-out products?

It depends on the page. If it’s coming back, keep it live and say so. If it’s gone for good but has traffic or links, redirect it to the closest product or collection. If it has neither, it can go. The audit sorts your catalog into those three groups.

Should each color have its own product page?

Usually not. One product with color variants keeps reviews and ranking signals in one place. Separate pages can make sense when shoppers search for a specific color and the products are meaningfully different. It’s a call made with your search data, not a rule.

How fast will we see results?

Schema errors and rich results usually update within 2-4 weeks of Google recrawling the fixed pages. New collection pages take longer to rank. AI citations typically appear 60-90 days after implementation.
