SEO for supplement brands

SEO for supplement brands on Shopify

Supplements are one of the hardest categories to rank in. Google holds health content to a higher bar, the big marketplaces own the head terms, and most brands can’t say what their product actually does without a compliance problem. I work on Shopify and Shopify Plus supplement stores and focus on the searches where people are ready to buy.

  • Collection and product pages built around buying searches, not 3,000-word blog posts
  • Clean Product schema with your review rating, so stars show in Google and AI search
  • Copy that stays inside structure/function language, with claims flagged for your compliance review

Both free. The Revenue Leak audit is 8 minutes of analysis on your store and a 20-minute call.

Why it’s harder

What makes supplement SEO different

  • Google treats health as high stakes. Supplement pages fall under what Google calls “Your Money or Your Life” content. Thin product pages with no sourcing, no named expert and no real ingredient detail struggle to rank.
  • Amazon and the big retailers own the head terms. You won’t outrank them for “magnesium” or “creatine”. You can win the specific searches they serve badly: a form, a dose, a use, a dietary need.
  • You can’t just say what it does. Disease claims create FDA and FTC risk, so most supplement copy ends up vague. Vague pages don’t rank. The work is writing specific, useful pages inside the language you’re allowed to use.
  • Supplement Facts locked in images. Many stores show ingredients and amounts only as a label photo. Google and AI engines can’t reliably read it, so the details buyers search for never reach the index.
  • Review apps and subscriptions break schema. Subscription apps add selling plans and review apps add their own Product markup. Prices and ratings stop matching, and the stars drop out of search.

What I do

Pages built for people ready to buy

Most supplement SEO advice says to publish more blog posts about benefits. Those posts attract readers who aren’t shopping, and AI now answers most of those questions before anyone clicks. I put the work where buyers search:

  • Collections by need, form and diet. Pages like “vegan protein powder”, “magnesium glycinate” or “creatine gummies” that match how buyers search and send them straight to products.
  • Product pages with the detail buyers check. Ingredients and amounts as text, third-party testing, who it’s for, how to take it, and a named expert who reviewed the page.
  • Comparison pages. Your product against the alternatives buyers are weighing, written fairly enough that Google and AI engines trust it.
  • One clean Product block per page. Price, availability, GTIN and your review rating in a single schema block, with duplicates from review and subscription apps removed.
  • Collection architecture and indexation. Filter pages, duplicate collections and old product URLs cleaned up so authority goes to the pages that sell.

I’m an SEO, not a lawyer. I flag claims that look risky and keep copy inside structure/function language, but your regulatory reviewer has the final word.

FAQs

Questions about supplement SEO

Can a smaller supplement brand outrank Amazon?

Not for the broad terms. For specific searches, often yes: a particular form, dose, diet or use case. Those searches are smaller, but the people making them are closer to buying, and marketplaces rarely have a page built for them.

Will you write health claims for our products?

No. I write within structure/function language and flag anything that reads like a disease claim. Your compliance or regulatory reviewer should approve all product copy before it goes live.

Do I need a blog to rank?

Not to start. Collection, product and comparison pages usually bring revenue sooner. Educational content helps later, mostly to build trust and earn links.

How fast will we see results?

Schema errors and rich results usually update within 2-4 weeks of Google recrawling the fixed pages. New collection pages take longer to rank. AI citations typically appear 60-90 days after implementation.
