Shopify Duplicate Product Schema: How to Find and Remove It

Last Updated on October 14, 2026 by Corey Fox

Duplicate Product schema means Google finds your product described more than once on the same page. On Shopify, the theme outputs one Product block, then a review app or SEO app adds another. The copies rarely agree on price, stock or rating, and the usual result is Search Console errors and missing review stars. The fix is to get down to one Product block per page.

How to find it in two minutes

  1. Paste a product URL into Google’s Rich Results Test.
  2. Click Product snippets. More than one item means duplicates.
  3. Expand each one and compare price, availability and rating.

The Rich Results Test tells you there are two. It won’t tell you who added them. The free Shopify Schema Conflict Checker does: it names the theme or app behind each block and flags prices that don’t match your store.

Where the extra copies come from

  • Your theme. Dawn and most Online Store 2.0 themes print a Product JSON-LD block from the product section. In Dawn it’s in sections/main-product.liquid. Older themes use microdata attributes in the product template instead.
  • Review apps. Judge.me, Yotpo, Okendo, Loox and Stamped can add their own Product markup to carry the star rating.
  • SEO and schema apps. Apps sold as “rich snippets” or “JSON-LD” add a full Product block without checking whether the theme already has one.
  • Leftover code. Uninstalling an app doesn’t always remove what it pasted into your theme.

How to get down to one

Decide which block stays, then remove the rest. I recommend keeping the theme’s block, because it reads price and stock straight from Shopify and stays correct when variants change. Then:

  1. Duplicate your theme first. Make every change on the copy and preview it.
  2. Turn off app schema. Switch off rich snippets in your review app (Judge.me, Yotpo) and the Product schema option in any SEO app.
  3. Add the rating to the theme block. Otherwise you lose your stars. Read it from Shopify’s standard review fields so it updates on its own.
  4. Retest product, collection and blog pages. Some apps add rating markup on pages that can’t get stars anyway.
  5. Publish the copy once every page shows exactly one Product item.

The Shopify Schema Kit packages steps 2 to 4: drop-in snippets for one clean Product block with the rating included, Organization, breadcrumb and article schema, plus a guide naming the exact Dawn files to change. $39, one-time.
