Yotpo Rich Snippets: How to Turn Them Off on Shopify
Last Updated on November 2, 2026 by Corey Fox
Yotpo rich snippets are the Product schema Yotpo adds to your product pages so Google can show your star rating. Your Shopify theme usually outputs its own Product schema too, so Google ends up with two versions of the same product. Unlike most review apps, Yotpo has no setting in the admin to turn its schema off. You have to ask their support. (To see how Yotpo compares, here’s how all five major Shopify review apps handle schema.)
Short on time? I can fix your Yotpo schema inside your theme so there’s one Product block with your Yotpo rating attached.
How to check if you have duplicate Product schema
- Paste a product URL with reviews into Google’s Rich Results Test.
- Click Product snippets. Two items means two Product blocks.
- Expand both. If one has the rating and a different price than the other, that’s the Yotpo block and your theme’s block disagreeing.
The free Shopify Schema Conflict Checker does this in one step and tells you which app added each block.
Step 1: Get your rating into Shopify’s review fields
Before you turn Yotpo’s schema off, make sure your theme can still show the rating. In Yotpo Reviews, go to Program Settings > Shopify Metafields Sync and turn on Activate Shopify Metafields Sync. Give the first sync a few hours. Yotpo then writes your average rating and review count to Shopify’s standard review fields, where your theme’s schema can read them.
Step 2: Ask Yotpo to turn off their rich snippets
Email Yotpo Support or your account manager. You can copy this:
Hi, please disable Yotpo’s automatic product rich snippets (JSON-LD) for our store, [your-store].myshopify.com. Our theme now outputs Product schema with the rating from Shopify’s review metafields, and we need to avoid duplicate markup. Thanks.
Once they confirm, run the Rich Results Test again. You want exactly one Product item, with the rating on it.
If your theme’s schema doesn’t include the rating
Most themes don’t add the rating to their Product schema, so stars disappear once Yotpo’s block is gone. The Shopify Schema Kit fixes that: one clean Product block with the rating included, read from the fields Yotpo now syncs, and only on products that have reviews. If you’d rather skip the sync, the Kit includes a one-line option that reads Yotpo’s own fields instead. $39, copy-paste snippets and a guide.

Yotpo rich snippets FAQ
Will turning off Yotpo rich snippets remove my stars from Google?
Only if nothing else carries the rating. Turn on Shopify Metafields Sync first and make sure your theme’s Product schema includes the rating, then have Yotpo switch theirs off. Your stars come from the theme’s block instead.
Is there a setting in Yotpo to disable rich snippets?
No. Yotpo doesn’t offer a toggle in the admin. Their support team turns the JSON-LD off on request, which is why the email template above exists.
How long until my stars show again?
Usually 2-4 weeks, once Google recrawls the fixed product pages. You can request indexing for your top products in Search Console to speed it up.
