Judge.me Rich Snippets: How to Stop Duplicate Product Schema on Shopify
Last Updated on October 14, 2026 by Corey Fox
Judge.me rich snippets are the Product schema Judge.me adds to your product pages so Google can show your star rating. Most Shopify themes already output their own Product schema. Leave both on and Google sees the same product described twice, often with different prices, and only one of them carrying the rating.
The fix is to keep one source. Below is how to check, how to turn Judge.me’s schema off, and the step most guides miss. Judge.me isn’t the only app that does this: here’s how all five major Shopify review apps handle schema.
How to check if you have the problem
- Open Google’s Rich Results Test and paste a product URL that has reviews.
- Click Product snippets.
- If it says 2 valid items detected, you have two Product blocks. Expand both and compare price, rating and review count.
Or run the page through the free Shopify Schema Conflict Checker. It names Judge.me as the source if that’s where the second block comes from.
How to turn off Judge.me rich snippets
- In Judge.me, go to Settings > Google, SEO and AI > SEO Rich Snippets.
- Turn off both the JSON-LD and the microdata options. Save.
- Make sure your theme’s Product schema includes the rating. Judge.me writes Shopify’s standard review fields (
reviews.ratingandreviews.rating_count), so the theme can read them. Many themes don’t, which is why stars disappear when people do step 2 alone.
The catch: old markup stays on existing products
Judge.me doesn’t build its schema live. It prints a copy saved on each product, and turning the setting off doesn’t erase copies that already exist. I tested this on a dev store: after switching rich snippets off, the duplicate Product block was still there on every product that already had reviews.
A product’s copy is rebuilt the next time its reviews change. To force it, go to Reviews, set one review on that product to Unpublished, then back to Published. Do it for your top products, or ask Judge.me support to “refresh review widget metafields” for the whole store. Then run the Rich Results Test again. You want exactly one Product item, with the rating on it.
If your theme doesn’t output the rating
That’s what the Shopify Schema Kit is for. It replaces your theme’s Product schema with one clean block that pulls the Judge.me rating from Shopify’s review fields, only on products that have reviews. Copy-paste snippets and a step-by-step guide, $39.
