Shopify Review Stars Not Showing in Google? 4 Causes and Fixes

Last Updated on October 14, 2026 by Corey Fox

If your Shopify store has reviews but Google won’t show the stars, it’s almost always one of four things: two Product schema blocks fighting each other, a theme that doesn’t include the rating, rating values Google can’t read, or Google just hasn’t recrawled the page yet. Stars are never guaranteed, but you can rule out every cause that’s in your control in about ten minutes.

Start here: paste a product URL that has reviews into Google’s Rich Results Test and click Product snippets. What you see tells you which cause you have.

1. Two Product schema blocks

What you’ll see: “2 valid items detected” under Product snippets. One has the rating, the other has a different price or no rating at all.

Your theme outputs Product schema, and your review app adds its own so it can attach the stars. Google gets two descriptions of the same product that don’t agree, and it often shows neither rich result. This is the most common cause I find on Shopify stores.

Fix: keep one source. Turn off the review app’s rich snippets, or remove the schema from your theme. App-specific steps: Judge.me and Yotpo. Okendo has a checkbox under Reviews > Settings > Widget, and Loox has a toggle in its admin.

2. Your theme’s schema has no rating

What you’ll see: one Product item, valid, with a warning that aggregateRating and review are missing, on a product you know has reviews.

This usually happens right after someone fixes cause 1 by turning the review app’s snippets off. Most themes, Dawn included, don’t add the rating to their Product schema. So the duplicate is gone, but so are the stars.

Fix: add the rating to the theme’s Product schema, reading it from Shopify’s standard review fields (reviews.rating and reviews.rating_count), which Judge.me, Loox and Yotpo can all fill. The Shopify Schema Kit does this with copy-paste snippets, and only adds the rating on products that actually have reviews.

3. Rating values Google can’t use

What you’ll see: an error on the Product item about ratingValue or reviewCount, or a rating on products with zero reviews.

Hand-rolled theme code is the usual culprit: a rating printed as empty text, a count of 0, or a rating block that appears on every product whether it has reviews or not. Google ignores or flags all of these.

Fix: only output aggregateRating when the review count is above zero, and output the values as numbers. If you didn’t write the code, the Shopify Schema Conflict Checker will show you exactly which values are wrong.

4. Everything is valid, Google just hasn’t caught up

What you’ll see: exactly one Product item, with the rating, no errors.

Then the markup is right. Google has to recrawl the page before stars show up, which usually takes two to four weeks after a fix. Request indexing for your top product URLs in Search Console’s URL Inspection tool to speed it up. Even with perfect markup, Google decides page by page whether to show stars, so you won’t see them on every product or every search.
